The Are Polar Regions Getting Warmer? unit consists of six sessions divided into two parts. Before beginning the unit, students complete the Pre-Unit Questionnaire. Then, in Sessions 1-5, they use observation and measurement to consider periods of daylight and darkness. They investigate how the sun lights and heats Earth, and they look at the polar regions for signs of global warming. Then students vote on limiting activities that produce greenhouse gases.
In Session 6, students send data to the unit database about differences between the air temperature and hours of daylight in their own location and in polar regions. They also send the results of their vote to the unit database. At the end of the unit, students complete the Post-Unit Questionnaire.
